Enjoy a ‘Pear’fect day at Cannon Hall

Visitors will enjoy a ‘pear’fect day at Cannon Hall on Sunday, 22 September as they celebrate the Hall’s annual Pear Day. 

The stunning Georgian country house hosts the spectacular free event each year to commemorate the harvest of the historic pears, which are an important part of Cannon Hall’s past.

People can come along between 11am and 4pm and taste the pears, which will be available to buy alongside a selection of other tasty produce from the gardens.

Families will have a wonderful time at the well-loved event and an action packed day has been planned. As well as music, craft stalls, the Victorian kitchens open to explore and children’s activities there will also be fun fruit and vegetable themed entertainment taking place on the front lawn.  At 2pm, the Bard of Barnsley will perform a poem, written about the picturesque place, celebrating its beauty and landscapes. There will also be a unique opportunity to have a tour of the walled gardens which are currently being refurbished.

It is a great opportunity for visitors to find out more about the Halls restoration project – Parks for People, which is well underway and due to be complete in 2020.  The project has been made possible through the continued support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and its players.

Pear Day is a wonderful tradition and an important part of the local communities’ calendar. The Hall has a long and fascinating history and the pear collection is an important part of this.  The collection is recognised nationally and we are proud to have it in the borough.  Families will have a brilliant time at the special event with lots to see and do – it is also a way to celebrate the exciting future of the visitor attraction as the Parks for People project heads into its final stages.
